About the country: Peru was founded in 1821 and is now a country of 33 million people. The country is famous for its history, culture and for Machu Picchu-one of the 7 wonders of the world. Peru just opened a new modern international airport in July 2025. The country has three distinct geographic areas, the coast region, the highland region (Andes Mountains) and the jungle (includes the Amazon River). The country is well known for its unique cuisine which is a blend of traditional Peruvian food fused with oriental cuisine. This year, Lima has been recognized as having the #1 restaurant in the world located 7 blocks from our Lima brigade hotel called “Maido”. Lima is also known for its scenic boardwalk which covers many miles with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and countless parks and pathways.
