The Making a Difference Foundation, in partnership with A Broader View, is providing medical and dental professionals an opportunity to participate in a medical mission trip to La Ceiba, Honduras.

Volunteers will be set up with a host family during their stay in La Ceiba, Honduras. A Broader View partners with the regional hospital in La Ceiba, the local Bomberos ambulance service, and several small clinics around the city. The hospital is critically understaffed and appreciates volunteers coming in to offer assistance. Most of the activities on this trip center around health education of basic hygiene and healthy living practices, women’s health, as well as HIV awareness. Practitioners may also be asked to go on rounds with the hospital staff, assist in the ER with triage, or be on a health brigade going out to local communities. Volunteers will be working 4-8 hours per day, and can enjoy sightseeing (such as Mayan Ruins, white water rafting, or zip lining through the rain forest) on the weekend.

Honduras is a country with extreme poverty. Healthcare is almost nonexistent in rural areas of the country. Malaria, dengue, chikungunya are highly prevalent diseases in this area. Skin rashes, infections, respiratory infections, influenza, heart-worm and diarrhea are all common based on lack of clean water and sanitation in the area. Healthcare professionals will be able to address these issues with patient care and health education.
