Sitting on the West African Coast, Cote d’Ivoire is a mix of mountain ranges and a costal fringe. Cote d’Ivoire is bordered by Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, and Liberia. With a population of over 23.7 million people and 78 languages, this is a country with vast ethnic and cultural diversity. In Cote d’Ivoire past, political and social turmoil has resulted from civil wars between the two major religions in the country, Islam and Christianity.
Outside of Yamoussoukro, the capital city, rural areas are plagued with malaria, parasites, HIV and respiratory issues. About a quarter of the population lives below the international poverty line.
Cote d’Ivoire health services were comparatively good before the 1990’s, when an economic crisis and growing population made it hard to meet the needs of the people. During this time AIDS became and remains a problem, with other significant health issues such as tuberculosis and malaria.
In partnership with “Redemption in Action,” Project C.U.R.E will focus on rural clinics in need and work to bring about change to the local healthcare communities. This mission will focus on a combination of mobile clinics and patient education to surrounding areas of the Yamoussoukro Region.
