About the country: Panama is a transcontinental country in Central and South America. Home to the Panama Canal it is a very diverse and multicultural place. Many indigenous tribes lived in the region, before being colonized by Spain. Panama gained its independence in 1903. Panama is covered in jungles and home to an abundance of tropical plants and animals – some of them found nowhere else on earth.
About the clinic site: You will provide acute and ongoing medical care, including education, training, and community projects. You may see common ailments, tropical conditions, and non-communicable diseases. You may treat worms, parasites, machete wounds, malnutrition, dengue fever, STDs, HIV, shark bites, infected wounds, scabies, and fungal infection. The absence of sanitation, electricity, clean water, and other infrastructure – combined with poverty and poor health knowledge – compound challenges to providing healthcare.
