Making a Difference in Cambodia

This summer, six dedicated Weatherby Healthcare providers joined forces with other volunteers for a medical mission trip in Cambodia. In partnership with the Making a Difference Foundation and International Medical Relief, our team provided care to a diverse range of patients. Over the course of four days, the team operated pop-up clinics in various communities around the capital, seeing over 800 patients in need.

Two of the Weatherby providers, Dr. Lupei and Dr. Evans, reflected on their experiences in country and shared some meaningful moments.

Dr. Lupei was touched and impressed by her fellow providers.  “The other providers were just so gracious, giving, and thoughtful. It was beautiful to see how everybody wanted to really help as much as we can.”

Dr. Evans shared a particularly poignant moment during a clinic set up in a local monastery, where monks attended for their physicals. She was surprised to find that, despite their association with mindfulness, many of the monks struggled with anxiety and insomnia.  “They’re just people”, Dr. Evans remarked, highlighting the universality of the human experience, regardless of one’s circumstances, lifestyle, or beliefs.

These encounters not only enriched the lives of the patients being cared for, but also deepened the sense of purpose for the providers, reminding us all of the profound impact of meaningful connections in healthcare.
